Executive Function Tutoring

Know What's Due. Know Where You Stand.
Stay on Top of It.

Small-group sessions that walk students through their actual coursework, their real deadlines, and the organizational habits that keep academic and personal life from piling up.

What Happens in a Session

Most students aren't failing because they don't care. They're failing because nobody has ever sat down with them and shown them how to actually manage the moving parts of their academic life — the assignments, the tests, the extracurriculars, the deadlines that seem to appear out of nowhere.

Every Creative Journeys EF session starts with a student's real Learning Management System — Canvas, Schoology, Google Classroom, whatever their school uses. We look at it together. We identify current grades, outstanding assignments, and upcoming tests. Then we build a personal plan, adding everything into the student's own digital notes so they leave with a clear, organized picture of exactly where they stand and what comes next.

Parents benefit too. When a student has a system they actually use, the "did you do your homework?" conversation changes — because the student can show you the answer.

A Typical Session, Step by Step

Structured, practical, and built around each student's real academic life — not generic study skills advice.

1

Open the LMS Together

We pull up the student's school platform — Canvas, Schoology, Google Classroom — and take stock. What's the current grade in each class? What's missing? What's coming up?

2

Identify & Prioritize

We walk through assignments and upcoming tests together, helping the student see the full picture instead of just the thing that's due tomorrow. Urgency and importance get sorted out loud.

3

Build Their Personal Plan

Everything gets captured in the student's own digital notes — assignments, test dates, extracurricular commitments. Their system, in their words, maintained by them. We just help them build the habit.

4

Leave with Clarity

The student ends every session knowing exactly where they stand academically and what their next moves are. No mystery. No dread. Just a clear, manageable list they built themselves.

Thursday: The EF Quest Session

Once a week, the organizational work gets gamified. Thursday sessions bring the same executive function skills into a story-based adventure — practiced in a way that sticks.

Why Roleplay Works for EF Skills

The same skills students practice in their LMS — planning, prioritizing, staying flexible when things change, managing overwhelm — show up constantly at the game table. The difference is that in the story, the stakes feel real but the consequences are safe.

Students make decisions, face the results, and debrief what happened in a structured way. That debrief is where the transfer happens — from "my character figured it out" to "I know how to do this in real life too."

Thursday TTRPG sessions are open to any current EF Tutoring student. No prior roleplaying experience required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this therapy?
No. Creative Journeys is educational coaching, not therapy or clinical treatment. Sessions focus on practical organizational skills and self-awareness. For students working with a licensed counselor, our Counselor Collaboration program is designed to complement that relationship — not replace it.
What school platforms do you work with?
Any Learning Management System your school uses — Canvas, Schoology, Google Classroom, or others. Students share their screen during sessions so we can work directly inside the tools they already use every day.
What age range do you serve?
EF Tutoring is designed for students in grades 4–12. Groups are organized by developmental stage so the pacing and examples feel relevant. Adults can be accommodated through individual sessions.
Does my child need a diagnosis?
No. Many students who benefit most haven't been diagnosed with anything — they're just overwhelmed and under-organized in ways school hasn't addressed. A diagnosis isn't required to participate.
Do they have to do the Thursday TTRPG session?
No — it's optional. Thursday sessions are available to any current EF Tutoring student who wants to participate, but regular sessions stand completely on their own. No prior roleplaying experience is needed if they do want to join.
How will I know if my child is making progress?
The clearest sign is a student who can show you — without being asked — exactly what's due, what's coming up, and what their plan is. That shift from "I don't know" to "here's my system" is typically visible within the first few sessions.
What platform do you use for online sessions?
Sessions run via video call with screen sharing. Specific platforms are confirmed at intake based on what works for your family's setup.
